In the middle of the Atlantic, three groups of volcanic islands from the Archipelago of the Azores. They are composed of 9 islands. The Central group consists of the islands Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico, and Faial. East through the isles of São Miguel and Santa Maria. To the West by the islands of Flores and Corvo.
Numerous viewpoints offer stunning views. Mountains and tranquil valleys, covered with lush vegetation, lagoons of immense beauty housed in craters of extinct volcanoes, fumaroles, geysers, and hot springs, imposing peaks and mysterious caves, in contrast to carefully cultivated fields, give the archipelago a rare landscape variety. Due to a pollution-free atmosphere, the landscape acquires unusual shades in an atmosphere of tranquility, providing excellent conditions for photography lovers. Combining all these factors results in a mild climate that, added to the soil’s particular nature, gives rise to the fertility of the ground that translates into the presence of the most varied and exotic plant species.
What to bring / When to go?
The influence of the Gulf Stream tempers the climate of the Azores. There are no significant variations in the air temperature that reaches summer with average values of 23ºC. In winter, it has an approximate temperature of 14ºC.
The rainfall is quite accentuated in the colder seasons, although there are occasional showers in summer, even if lighter and sporadic.
How to move between islands?
By boat or plane depending on the distance to the desired island.
Since the first quarter of 2015, the new air passenger transport model in the Azores took effect. Designated as “inter-island routing,” it means that the Azores start to function as a single airport. A forwarding service, free of charge for passengers, for passengers traveling within the Azores’ Autonomous Region, with origin or destination in Mainland Portugal or Funchal.
You must book a forwarding ticket for passengers starting their journey between mainland Portugal, Funchal, and the Azores when they are destined for an island other than the one for entry into the Azores. Reservation required for incoming or outgoing flights from the Azores.

We recommend at least three days on the main island of the Azores.
For the first day on the island, our suggestion goes to the Seven Cities. Start by leaving Ponta Delgada towards the western region of the island. Observe the magnificent view of the Lagoa das Sete Cidades through the Vista do Rei viewpoint. Go down to the parish of Sete Cidades and stop at Lagoa de Santiago. Continue along the Pico do Carvão road and visit Lagoa do Canário. Before returning to Ponta Delgada, see the Pico do Carvão viewpoint and a Pineapple greenhouse tasting the famous Pineapple liqueur.
For the second day, we recommend a trip starting on the north road to Ribeira Grande. Visit the Santa Iria viewpoint. Continue until you reach the Gorreana tea plantations, where green and black tea is produced. Visit the Pico do Ferro viewpoint to see the Vale and Lagoa das Furnas, then head to the Caldeiras das Furnas. Have lunch at the famous Furnas stew. Visit Terra Nostra Park and return along the south coast, passing by Lagoa das Furnas and Vila Franca do Campo.
On the third day, follow the north road, passing through Rabo de Peixe to the city of Ribeira Grande. Discover the church of Nossa Senhora da Estrela and the church of Espírito Santo. Taste the Passion Fruit Liqueur at the Ribeira Grande factory. Climb up to Lagoa do Fogo until you reach the viewpoint of Lagoa do Fogo. Go down the south coast, passing by the village of Lagoa, Pópulo, and São Roque until you reach Ponta Delgada.
You can also take a trip on board a boat to see the magnificent south coast of the island and watch sea birds, turtles, flying fish, whales, or dolphins.
